Spring Home Maintenance Checklist

That first sign of spring is different for everyone. For some, it’s a robin. For others, it’s transitioning their little ones from snow boots to rain boots. And for still others, it’s game one of the hockey playoffs. Whatever signifies spring to you, one thing is true for all of us: there’s work to do! For most of us, spring cleaning conjures images of closet purges, open windows and lemon-scented cleaner. But a good spring clean is about more than just making your home look good; it’s also about maintaining it and protecting it from potential future damage. To help you out, we’ve put together a handy little checklist. We’re very giving;)

  • Change batteries in all smoke/carbon monoxide detectors and make sure they’re functioning properly
  • Change furnace filter
  • Clear leaf debris, etc. from yard, window wells, and eavestroughs
  • Ensure all downspouts are clear of debris and in the right position to drain water away from the foundation
  • Clean windows and screens
  • Check for missing or damaged shingles
  • Clear debris from air conditioner, if relevant
  • Ensure all exterior GFI plugs are working properly
  • Ensure patios, decks, deck stairs and railings are stable
  • Turn on exterior water tap to ensure there are no leaks
